Before the first lockdown came and also brought business life to an almost complete standstill, I went to India for a few days on business, the topic of "chromium (VI) compounds" had to wait and somehow I didn't get anywhere.
There were some references to calcium-containing insulations and the formation of chromium (VI) compounds in the area of high-temperature insulations, but to refer only to warnings without having solid reasons, that, I knew, would not work to understand a problem or to build up a chain of solutions.
I was active again and again in the search engines, but it was like a virtual wall and the Siemens lecture of the previous post I did not know at this time yet.
Why I clicked the contribution
"Behavior of oxyanions forming heavy metals in municipal solid waste incineration"
of all things, I don't know today any more, but so I was allowed to get to know "Francesca", actually Mrs. Dr. Francesca Paoletti, whose doctoral thesis in the year 2002 at the Institute for Technical Chemistry Research Center Karlsruhe dealt with the above-mentioned topic and in this meanwhile twenty-year-old dissertation I then found the all-decisive sentence:
"..however, the MIXTURE of Cr2O3 (Chrom (III)-oxide) AND CaO (Calcium oxide) exhibited a very interesting THERMAL behavior...",
For the first time, the direct formation process of calcium chromate under thermal conditions was explained here.
Of course I had many questions and with a little patience I managed to find Dr. Paoletti and to this day I am very grateful to her that she always took the time to answer my many questions.
And so Francesca told me in one of our conversations that the choice of her scientific topic was received rather reservedly by her so-called "doctoral supervisor", because it was assumed that not many would be interested.
Well, I was very interested in the topic and equipped with the right keywords I was able to expand my research, so I was on the right track and so the further scientific elaborations just flew at me, but more about this in the following blog articles.
And therefore this is "your" post, dear Francesca, very dear vacation greetings and stay healthy and also on this way once again a heartfelt thank you for your support between lockdown, fear and vaccination, arrivederci e grazie dottore!
Without your impulses the knot would not have burst!
